Food Search
Standard Search
If you enter more than one word, for example coca cola, by default the
search engine tries to find food descriptions that contain all of the words entered. If you
get no results try reducing the number of words you used or perform an "advanced" search and select
the "Any of the Words Entered" option.
Advanced Search
Food Group
Filters the search by the specified food group.
Database
Allows you to limit the search to your personal or the main database.
Search Options
"All of the words entered": searches for food descriptions that contain all of the words you
entered (i.e. coca cola is equal to coca AND cola in Boolean search mode - see below).
This is the default option.
"Any of the words entered": searches for food descriptions that contain any of the words you
entered (i.e. coca cola is equal to coca OR cola in Boolean search mode).
"The exact phrase entered": by default the search engine looks for partial matches. So, if you
enter lemon it will return results for lemon, lemonade, etc. If you select this option
it will look for the exact word or phrase instead (i.e. lemon returns only lemon).
"Boolean (text contains AND/OR)": This option allows you to specify more advanced queries. For
example coca OR pepsi AND cola returns all results for coca cola as well as all
results for pepsi cola.
Notes
If you get results even though the words you searched for are not in the
description of the food, this is because for many foods we store keyword information,
which includes common misspellings, alternative spellings, abbreviations and/or synonyms.
